This disorder is much more common than most people realize, affecting 2% of the population; however anxiety conditions often remain undiagnosed. Anxiety is a sense of fear or impending doom. It affects twice as many women as it does men.
Acute Anxiety disorder manifests in episodes most often known as panic attacks. Here we find that the normal ‘fight or flight’ response occurs at the wrong time. Symptoms include muscular tension, rapid heartbeat and breathing, sweating, dizziness, and abdominal distress. Anxiety attacks may be mistaken for heart attacks or other medical conditions. Chronic Anxiety is milder and more generalized, with feelings of extreme worry and tension present much of the time. Headaches and chronic fatigue are also common in these cases.
Recommended Action
Eat a well balanced diet. Do not skip meals. Keep sugars, starches, coffee and caffeine-containing foods to a minimum. Many allergies, especially dairy, can trigger an anxiety response. Check out allergy testing under Diet Plans. Fill out the Candida, Blood Sugar and Syndrome X questionnaires, as all of these issues have been shown to cause anxiety. The best botanical we have found for this is Reishi, and will usually turn this problem around in short order. For the acute condition we use the flower essence Rescue ER.
Find some form of creative output as this can release personal pressures, so they don’t need to build up into a panic attack. Take up some kind of relaxation technique such as Tai Chi, Qi Gong or meditation. Walking has been found to be a good release for this disorder. Be sure to get adequate rest. Practicing breathing exercises has also been found helpful. Cognitive-behavioural therapies which teach people how to view the circumstances of one’s life differently or how to consciously relax the body and mind may be necessary.
